Quantification

A variety of commercially available ELISA-based and spectrophometric assays are routinely used in the department to quantify physiological mediators such as hormones and stress biomarkers and chemical mediators related to water quality. Specific sample types and assays include:

  • Cortisol in salmon blood and mucus
  • Testosterone in salmon blood
  • Nitrite and Nitrate in salmon plasma
  • Ammonia in salmon blood
  • Hemoglobin and Methaemoglobin in salmon blood
  • Potassium in salmon blood and muscle
  • Chlorophyll A in water samples

Equipment and supplies

Firum´s laboratory space at iNOVA is fully equipped for sample preparation and analysis with dedicated workspaces, sterile LAF bench, and chemical fumehood. Specialized equipment includes:
