Sustainable utilisation of the fjords

Aquafarming in the fjords requires knowledge of the physical and biological conditions. Knowledge is needed when assessing how the farming can be developed, as well as the extent of the industry’s impact on the fjords. All data on the fjords must be collected to enable research into how the ecosystem works.

Firum aims to build knowledge about animal communities, seaweed diversity and growth in the fjords. Another object of investigation is to understand how different types of seaweed affect each other.

Work is underway to develop a model that shows how the flow and stratification of seawater changes with the seasons as well as the influence of the weather.
