International Sea Lice Conference: 800 participants luttakarar in 24 sq m

Presently, the international online conference on sea lice is being streamed. A record over 800 participants have registered for the Sea Lice Online Conference, which is organised and hosted by P/F Fiskaaling in the Faroe Islands.

The world’s most prominent experts on sea lice meet traditionally every alternate year. The last conference was in Chile in 2018, and the next conference was planned to be in Tórshavn, the Faroe Islands, in September 2020. But then came Covid-19!

The conference was put on hold, and for now it is scheduled for May 2022.

But to avoid having too much time between conferences, Fiskaaling decided to provide this opportunity for the sea lice community to meet, hear and discuss sea lice research issues and topics. The online conference, then, is an opportunity for everyone to participate, and it serves as an appetiter for the big 13th Sea Lice International Conference in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands next year.

The agenda is from Tuesday to Thursday, but only two hours per day to allow participation across several timezones. We see presentations from the world’s most prominent sea lice researchers, covering three main topics: 1) Host and parasite biology: keys for control, 2) Environmental impacts and societal responsibility, og 3) Expanding options for integrated pest management: improved tools for a sustainable future.

International interest has been overwhelming as more than 800 participants have registered from 34 different countries around the world.

The conference is free. The streaming link is active on the Sea Lice webpage: www.sealiceconference.net.

- The online conference is a unique opportunity for all with a vested interest in sea lice to hear about the latest research results and issues from international experts. We are very pleased to host this evet , and we look forward to the big sea lice conference next year in the Faroe Islands, says Jóhanna Lava Køtlum, CEO at Fiskaaling.

The Sea Lice Online conference continues on Wednesday 8 Sept. at 14.00-16.00 UTC, and concludes on Thursday 9 Sept. at 14.00-16.00 UTC.
